Support Groups

The Battle Initiative is a peer led faith based organisation run by and for veterans, service personnel, first responders and their families. We operate 5 day recovery and character building programs walk alongside our Warriors in the healing journey overcoming challenges that come with life and service like moral injuries and post traumatic stress.

Many of our Warriors find it difficult to reintegrate back into civilian life, leaving their families to deal with the aftermath of broken homes and suicide at times. By having the opportunity to hear testimonies of overcoming with hope and faith in Jesus, these Warriors are able to lead their families, their communities and our great nation.

Our mission is to serve and restore our Nation’s Warriors and see suicide eliminated, the cycle of divorce broken, develop healthy families, build resilience and encourage warriors to serve and impact their communities.

All programs are provided at no cost to participants — including travel, food, and accommodation during the program.

At SMEAC, Veterans Helping Veterans is more than a motto – it’s our foundation. Built by those who have served, for those who have served, SMEAC is a veteran-run organisation committed to supporting our brothers and sisters in arms as they transition to civilian life.

We understand the challenges because we’ve lived them.

Through shared experience, mutual respect, and unwavering camaraderie, we offer a hand up—not a handout—ensuring that no veteran walks the path alone.

SMEAC is a registered veteran charity based on the Sunshine Coast, operated entirely by volunteers – veterans helping veterans.

Since day one, we’ve been delivering real, hands-on support to those in need. From crisis accommodation to retraining, advocacy to community connection, every effort we make is grounded in lived experience and genuine care.

Reeling Veterans grew from a really simple idea. The idea that reaching out to veterans and asking “would you like to go fishing?” may help them to have a chat, open up or quite simply just get them out of the house.

Our services provide assistance to people in all stages of life. Including day fishing trips, overnight and 5-day trips, assistance for those experiencing hardship, home maintance support, transition out of Defence force support and social activities for families.

Day Fishing Trips:  We provide day trips to help positively support with mental health development. We offer emotional and practical support to clients and their family, and help parents develop positive parent/child relationships.

Extended trips:  We manage this activity by providing a welcoming environment for all veterans and their family. These trips allow us to provide more one on one help put into place welfare and support networks. These trips also help with bringing families together and allow for parent to child bonding.

The Code 9 Foundation provides a place of support for current & veteran professional first responders & 000 operators who live with PTSD, depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions that result from their service to the community.

This support is available both in the ‘virtual world’ as well as via organised Peer to Peer ‘Catch-up’ nights, Coffee meet ups and other formal events.

The path through mental injury can be an isolating and lonely road.   At Code 9 we reach out and teach one another that they are never alone in their respective journeys, and we protect, support and encourage one another to do what is necessary to recover.

Our Vision is to ensure that no professional first responder feels alone, ever.

Code 9 PTSD want all professional first responders to know, You're Never Alone.
